Fire Extinguishers

The 5kg CO2 alloy steel extinguisher is specifically designed for fires involving flammable liquids and electrical hazards, Class B and  fires Class C .
CO2 Extinguishers must be serviced every 12 months (or sooner) in compliance with SABS standards. Extinguishers must also go through a hydrostatic testing every 10 years ensuring the strength of the cylinder.

Types of Extinguishers

DCP – A powder extinguisher sprays a very fine chemical powder composed most commonly of monoammonium phosphate. This acts to blanket the fire and suffocate it. Since it is not an electrical conductor and since it can effectively break the chain reaction in a liquid or gas fire, something a water extinguisher cannot do.
(CO2) – One of the cleanest types of extinguishers to use as it leaves no residue and requires no cleanup.It removes oxygen from the fire, effectively suffocating it of oxygen.
Wet chemical – Contains a solution composed of potassium that effectively launches a two-pronged assault on fires.
The liquid mist it sprays acts to cool the fire and due to the chemical reaction of the solution with the cooking medium, a thick soap-like substance forms, sealing the surface of the liquid to prevent re-ignition.

Fire Classes

Class A: Combustible materials such as paper, wood, cardboard and most plastics.
Class B: Flammable or combustible liquids such as petrol, kerosene, grease and oil.
Class C: Electrical equipment such as appliances, wiring, circuit breakers and outlets. NB: Never use water to extinguish class C fires!
Class D: Chemicals and combustible metals such as magnesium, titanium, potassium and sodium.
Class F: Cooking oils, trans-fats or fats in cooking appliances that are typically found in restaurants.
